Gammon and Chips

Gammon and Chips

Tonight was a lazy but yummy meal. Sainsbury’s basics cooking bacon on occasion has whole gammon steaks, I was very successful and had 3. All for under £2! When cooking with gammon remember it is very salty, so if possible don’t add anymore while cooking. I fried the gammon with a little bit of oil and pepper on either side, then when they were looking cooked and nice and brown I added a splash of white wine to the pan and let it reduce. Then put the veg on to cook, microwaved some tinned sweetcorn, boiled some green beans and peas. Trying to eat vegetables is so easy to ignore but they make such a difference, more so when you have 2 back to back 2 hour lectures starting at 9… I cheated with the chips and used microwave ones. I then lifted out the gammon steaks and with the liquid still left in the frying pan I added some plain flour to make a roux, added milk slowly until I had a thick white sauce added lots of pepper. Delicious!
