I am branching out from just recipes! Here is my very first restaurant review for Zizzi’s in Didsbury Manchester. If you enjoy it or have any feedback please leave a comment. Thank you!
With the slight glimmer of sunshine the brighter posher sight of Didsbury beckoned. After looking at an extensive array of tapas bars, cafes and restaurants we decided to stick to what we knew to be good. I mean, when can you go wrong with a chain?
Bright and airy, although quiet for a Saturday, we settled down and ordered a bottle of the house white to share-which I must say went down a treat and possibly made the rest of the review very positive!
To start with, we had the most ingenious dish; ‘fonduta al formaggi’ a melted pot of gorgonzola, gruyere and pecorino with focaccia for dipping… Posh fondu, a new delight and it was totally delicious.
For main course my friend had the ‘rustica picante pizza’. It was lovely-but a little spicy for me and also enough to feed the 5,000.
I had the ‘calzone pollo spinaci’ which again was a huge portion. Also slightly disconcerting was there appeared to be half a pig laid on top of the calzone in the form of coppa ham. Even for a committed meat eater it was a little bit much. However, the calzone was fantastic, beautifully seasoned and just the right amount of creamy mozzarella sauce to mushroom and chicken. Service was nice enough but slightly lacking considering how quiet it was. All in all the meal for two, including wine and a starter, came to just under £45.
We both left Zizzi’s happily full, a little tipsy and with half of our mains in a doggy bag. Although this is Zizzi’s, so it was in a nice pizza box. This leaves me wondering what do they do with pasta leftovers…
